Professor Mafor Edwan Nana Fon (Queen Mother), originally from Cameroon, is a US citizen currently serving as a senior IT systems security engineer for the United States Coast Guard. Additionally, she holds esteemed faculty positions at Copperstone University and St. Mary’s International College.
As a volunteer industry expert, she collaborates with government, academia, and
private sector Subject Matter Experts to promote the development and deployment of trustworthy and responsible AI technologies. A published author, she also leads
instruction at The Cyber Careers Training Center.
Her extensive volunteer work includes contributions to numerous National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Communities, the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals (ICMCP) now Cyversity, and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF)-USA. She advocates for an inclusive internet through her involvement with the Internet Society (ISOC) and works through her non-profit, The Cyber Careers Training Center, to ensure that minorities benefit from an open and trusted internet while understanding the relationship between their data and artificial intelligence.
Professor Mafor is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and
the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). She is recognized as a Fellow of the
International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals and has been
appointed as the IICFIP Female Inclusion Global Ambassador, tasked with encouraging and recruiting female digital investigators. Dr. Divine S. Anye serves as her primary mentor and cybersecurity thought leader.
With a career in teaching and experience as a senior system security engineer level III, this Certified Generative AI Security RMF; Governance professional has taught multiple cybersecurity certification courses to hundreds of scholars, who have
successfully pursued various cyber careers. Her scholars are a testament to her
dedication and impact.
She effectively utilizes free AI and cybersecurity resources, impressing even officials
from FTC.gov/Bulkorder who contacted her to verify her requests. She distributes
resources such as “Cybersecurity for Small Business” at business meetings, “NET
CETERA” at children’s birthday parties, scam publications at church and community
events, and privacy and identity publications at various gatherings. Her Chat, Chew, and Cyber Talk Training Series is available for both Digital Immigrants and Digital Natives.
She believes that cybersecurity/AI is for everybody and would kick off most cyber
careers meetings with something like this: “Did you know that the cyber workforce is not only about people writing code, hacking, being able to understand IT parlance and jargon, stealing data, being able to solve complex mathematics problems and other things that sound really weird? The cyber workforce is about a whole lot of common sense, skilled workers and just about every aspect of life. Almost everything we do has some kind of connection to the internet and most often makes our lives better. Sadly, this sometimes comes with daunting cybercrime and requires an intricate cyber workforce to effectively combat these cybercriminals.” She is known to hold classes at 9:00pm EST for scholars who can only be available at that time of the night. She is a living, walking, talking AI and cybersecurity advocate mobile.
